Overview

After making his filmy debut with a little role in Boys, Thaman has grown in to one of the busiest music composer in Telugu and Tamil. He is on his way to complete half century mark as music director in a very short career.

  • Personal Life

Ghantasala Sai Srinivas Thaman Siva Kumar is born in to a Telugu Brahmin family. His father Ghantasala Siva Kumar is a drummer who worked for famous music director, Chakravarthy. His mother Ghantasala Savitri is a famous playback singer. Thaman’s grandfather Ghantasala Balaramayya is a revered director cum producer who introduced Akkineni Nageswara to Tollywood in Seetarama Jananam movie.

Thaman was married to Playback Singer Sri Vardhini.

  • Career

At the age of 9, he joined Ilaiyaraja’s brother G. Anand as a rhythm pads player.  Thaman had to stop his studies at a very age due to the financial implications of his family following his father’s death.  To save his family from crisis, at the age of 13 he joined Raj-Koti team, and worked for three years on sixty films and later joined M. M. Keeravani and worked with him for three years completing thirty films. He worked with Manisharma for six and a half years working on eighty films. During this period, he gained good experience as well as good contacts in film industry. He also worked with music composers like AR Rehman, Harris Jairaj, Vandemataram Srinivas, Chakri, R. P. Patnaik and Devi Sri Prasad.

In 2003, he was selected in an audition for Shankar’s Boys movie to play the role of the drummer, Krishna in the movie. Thus he made his acting debut with Boys. Several offers came his way after that but he rejected them to pursue his dream of becoming a music director.

His first film in Telugu is Ravi Teja’s Kick in 2008. The audio of the movie was a huge hit and got him instant name and fame. He also composed music for Ravi Teja’s Anjaneyulu , Gopichand’s Shankam and Kalyan Ram’s Jayeebhava the next year. But all the three movies did not do well at the box office thus offered very little push to his career.

2010 was a significant year in the actor’s career. He got to compose music for NTR’s Brindavanam and the music of the move was a super hit and also played an important role in the movie success. In the same year, he also composed excellent music for movies like Nagarjuna’s Ragada and Ravi Teja’s Mirapakaay and from then there is no looking back to him.

With his contemporaries Mani Sharma losing his sheen and Devi Sri Prasad going slow in his career, offers started flowing Thaman’s way. After his first break Kick in 2009, Thaman was a common name for almost all the big star films. He composed for more than half a dozen films for Ravi Teja, four films for NTR, three films for Mahesh Babu. Except for Pawan Kalyan, he almost worked with every star hero in the industry. He recently completed his 50th film with Mahesh Babu's Aagadu. However with his recent flop streak, there are allegations that he is becoming too much of monotony and casual in his composing.
